Thiruvalluvar statue unveiled at OTA

A six-feet tall stone statue of Tamil poet Thiruvalluvar was unveiled at Officers Training Academy in St. Thomas Mount on Thursday.

The statue was installed at the Academic block on the occasion of Tamil New Year.

An official press release from the Ministry of Defence said the unveiling of the statue symbolised the relevance of Thirukural in military training.

The statue was presented to the Academy by city industrialist V. G. Santhosam in the presence of Lieutenant General Bobby Mathews, Commandant, of the Academy. The statue was presented on behalf of VGP Ulaga Tamil Sangam.

A moral guide

On the occasion, speakers said the profession of Arms was as much about moral courage as much it was about physical and mental toughness.

As officers leading men in testing conditions, a strong moral base was pivotal in ensuring good leadership and team spirit among their peers.

A guide to people

Thirukural served as a guide to people in all walks of life, the press release added.
