Link Road in Purasawalkam is said to be witnessing at least two accidents every week mainly due to speed breakers lacking zebra markings. Without the markings, the speed breakers are not easy to spot for motorists. Often, motorists notice a speed breaker only when they near it and by then, it’s difficult for them to control their vehicles and they other vehicles. Pedestrians are also sometimes injured in the process.

As Link Road has a few street lanes, residents from these lanes cross the stretch near the speed breakers suddenly, taking motorists by surprise.

“As the stretch is busy round the clock, we fail to notice the speed breakers, especially at night. Poor illumination also adds to the existing problem,” said S. Vignesh, a motorist from Kellys.

Residents said that the two speed breakers on the stretch were laid many months ago, but zebra markings were not painted on them. At present, Link Road is separated from other key stretches by a small triangular roundtana at the intersection. Corporation officials had placed small concrete slabs up to the roundtana from the Road to prevent motorists on Link Road from using other stretches, which are one-way stretches.
