Durgasri, a resident of Kannagi Nagar in Thoraipakkam, is attempting to emulate Prithika Yashini, the first transgender in the country to don the police cap.

On Sunday, she wrote the exam for the Tamil Nadu Uniformed Service Recruitment Board held in various parts of the State, including the city, for selection of Grade II police constables.

She wrote the exam at Meenakshi College in Kodambakkam. When asked about appearing for the exam, she said it was the support provided by her family members and police officers posted at Kannagi Nagar that gave her the confidence to write this exam.

She said that a large number of transgenders, despite having done well in academics, were unable to come up in life because of lack of support.

Ms. Durgasri also wanted to work towards changing the bad reputation that Kannagi Nagar area has earned among the people and police personnel.
