The key to entrepreneurial success

Ahead of the Global Entrepreneurship Summit in Hyderabad in November, the U.S. Consulate General in Chennai conducted a round table meeting attended by American entrepreneur Seema Chaturvedi in the city on Tuesday.

Ms. Chaturvedi interacted with business management students, start-ups, angel investors, venture capitalists and women entrepreneurs.

“Fear of failure is high in most entrepreneurs, especially in women. However, from being accompanied by their male counterparts everywhere, to now individually heading business firms, we have seen them come a long way,” she said.

Ms. Chaturvedi recently coordinated the U.S. Government-funded All India Roadshow on Women’s Economic Empowerment through Entrepreneurship. The program culminated with ‘Her Power: A Women Entrepreneurs Conclave’, which was held in New Delhi on September 11-12. At the conclave, she announced the Accelerator Group’s commitment to seed the launch of a $25 million early-stage private equity fund — Achieving Women Entrepreneurs Fund I — specifically for enterprises owned or managed by women.

She stressed on the need to have a good mentor and family support to help take businesses in the right direction. “I realised that it is important to have an active mentor, and at the same time, develop a system where the intensity of focus is on one area,” she said.

The GES will be held in Hyderabad from November 28 to 30. It is an annual entrepreneurship gathering that provides a platform for emerging entrepreneurs, investors, and ecosystem supporters from across the globe. GES 2017 was announced following the meeting of U.S. President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Washington, D.C. earlier this year. The two countries will co-host the event .
