The Chennai Corporation will finalise the tenders this week for four of the six foot overbridges to be constructed on various roads. The four FOB projects for which contracts would be finalised would come up at the Wallajah Road-Bells Road junction, Wallajah Road-Triplicane High Road junction, NSC Bose Road (near Parrys Corner) and Durgabai Deshmukh Road (near Andhra Mahila Sabha).

All the FOBs would have lift facilities. The civil works for the girder and foot path would be completed first and then the tenders for the lift component would be finalised, according to Corporation officials. The lifts would be designed to carry at least 15 persons.

The process of re-tendering for two FOBs on Rajaji Salai near Beach Station and Gandhi Irwin Salai near Egmore railway station would also be carried out soon, said officials. The work on city's first foot over bridge facility with lifts in Nungambakkam began in July last year and ended in November. The civil works were taken up at a cost of Rs.16 lakh and the lifts and cars cost Rs.41.50 lakh.

Reviewing the progress of works of the projects announced in the Chennai Corporation 2010-2011 budget at a meeting on Friday, Mayor M. Subramanian asked the officials to complete the works by December. “Strict orders have been given to complete the work on the FOB in Saidapet by September end,” said Mr. Subramanian. The Corporation issued work orders to the contractor in August last year for the facility on Taluk Office Road, Saidapet.
