Temples burgled

Burglars struck at temples in Avadi and Ayapakkam on Monday night and stole kalasams , a crown, silver items and utensils worth a total of Rs. 4 lakh.

The police said the first theft was reported in Sekkadu, Avadi, after burglars entered Sridevi Chinnammal temple during the night and fled with a total of six kalasams taken from the temple and a smaller temple located on the premises.

The Avadi police have registered a case and are investigating.

In another case, burglars targeted a temple in Brindavan Avenue, Ayapakkam, when it was closed after service on Monday night.

“Temple priest Rajagopal returned on Tuesday morning to open the temple and found the front gate and the door broken. A crown, trays and silver items used for worship worth a total of Rs. 2.5 lakh were stolen,” said Sundaresan, a temple representative.

The Thirumullaivoyal police have registered a case and investigations are under way, police officers said.
