Television journalists assaulted inside IT park

Two television journalists were assaulted, allegedly by security staff in Perungalathur on Wednesday.

T. Udhayakumar, News 7 cameraman, said he and K. Jaishankar of Sun TV entered Shriram IT Gateway for a video shoot.

While returning, they were intimidated by a group of security staff, who surrounded and assaulted them.

The journalists were attacked with iron rods and were kicked on their faces by the employees who were wearing boots.

On hearing about this incident, journalists from Tambaram gathered in front of the police station and urged the police to act against the men who assaulted them. A former Assistant Commissioner of Police, who was working there after retirement, was one of those who attacked the journalists.

A case had been registered at the Peerkankaranai police station and investigation was on, policemen at St. Thomas Mount district said.
