A teenager drowned in the Puzhal Lake on Friday evening after he went for a dip alone. His body was washed ashore on Saturday morning.
The Red Hills police identified the deceased as Rajesh Kumar (16), who was a resident of NSC Bose Street, Bhavani Nagar in Red Hills.
Kumar had recently completed his class X exams and was awaiting the results.
According to the police, every day, the teenager bicycled to the lake and swam in its shallow waters.
On Friday evening, he swam further into the lake and drowned in the deeper part, the police said.
Passersby spotted the boy’s bicycle and clothes on the bank, and alerted the local police.
The boy’s body was spotted in the water the next morning and the Red Hills police sent it for post-mortem to Government Stanley Hospital.
Body of man found in lakeAround the same time on Saturday morning, the decomposed body of a man, believed to be in his early 40s, was found floating in the lake.
The police recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem. Further probe is under way.
