The theme for the 2017 edition of Shaastra, is ‘Augment’. The annual technical festival of the Indian Institute of Technology – Madras has chosen the theme with ‘Pokemon Go’ in mind.

According to the students, the theme would reflect the reality but with an added element and to launch the theme, the students had invited plastic surgeon K. Mathangi Ramakrishnan, who is also the chairperson of CHILDS Trust Medical Research Foundation.

Dr. Mathangi spoke on the use of technology to treat burns. “Medicine and engineering are complementary,” she said, explaining how engineering research had helped to treat difficulties surgeons like her faced.

The technical fest is scheduled from December 31 to January 3, 2017. In 2015, around 50,000 visitors attended the meet.
