Teacher arrested for sexually assaulting minor in Chennai

The police arrested a 44-year-old school teacher in Koyambedu on Saturday for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old student on Friday.

The accused, Jayaprakash, a resident of Thiru Nagar, Jafferkhanpet, works as a Tamil teacher.

On Friday, he reportedly asked the student to fetch books from the staff room. He then followed the girl and sexually assaulted her, police sources said.

The girl informed her father about the incident and he lodged a complaint at the Kumaran Nagar police station.

“He has been booked under section 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 (POCSO),” said a police officer. Jayaprakash has been remanded in custody.
