Tea shops put up close to Simpsons & Co near the Chintadripet MRTS station were pulled down by the Chennai Corporation workers as part of the civic body’s anti-encroachment drive on Thursday.
K. Sundaresan, an executive engineer supervising the operations, said that the drive was taken up as per the orders of the Chennai Corporation Commissioner.
“These shops were a nuisance to the public,” he said.
S. Kumar, a regular customer at one of the tea stalls, said he would, henceforth, be deprived of much needed refreshments.
