The palms whispered, ochre hued lights reflecting on the magenta floor and the gentle yet irresistible aroma seemed a great proposition for a sun baked, but uncannily cool evening.
Gokulam, a quaint outlet of Sri Krishna Sweets, located at a prominent corner of the Krishna Gana Sabha, has the entire gamut of Margazhi tiffin cuisine - from the mundane idlies , to exotic Mor Kali , Masala Poli , Adai and Amni-kozhukattai , not to forget their Kara-Appams and Masala Dosa.
The Mor-kali was salty perfection, with Mor-Molaga stuffed in its core. The podi -topped Masala Poli was enjoyable, its taste enhanced by generous stuffing and the gleam of ghee. The tree-brown Adai , crowned by a dollop of butter, camouflaged by a bit of jaggery, was a fine treat. The Amni-kozhakattais, though miniature, made up with authentic taste. The crunchy golden Kara-Appams got along famously with the trademark mint chutney. The Masala Dosa , all decked up and flanked by the Siamese twins of red and white chutneys, was quite a fine feast, albeit marred by the annoying chillness of the chutneys.
