A suspect in a criminal case died after he allegedly jumped in front of a moving train in Kodambakkam on Saturday.
The man, identified as Parthasarathy of Madurantakam, was handcuffed at the time of the incident. He allegedly jumped in front of a Chengalpattu-bound train around 3.30 p.m. He was rushed to the Royapettah Government Hospital where he succumbed to injuries.
Sources with the Government Railway Police, Egmore suspect that he was brought to Kodambakkam from Otteri near Vandalur in connection with a case. “It is said he tried to escape from the police and in the process, jumped in front of the train. But, there is still no clarity and we are coordinating with the Kancheepuram police,” said a GRP source.
Kancheepuram police are conducting an inquiry. “He might have escaped from the station too. The personnel in Otteri police station are being questioned,” said an officer.
