Sudish meets Amit Shah

February 27, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:50 am IST - CHENNAI:

Amidst speculation that DMDK president Vijayakant was extremely unhappy at the soft handling of the PMK by the BJP, party youth wing leader L.K. Sudhish met BJP national president Amit Shah in New Delhi on Thursday.

Sources in the DMDK said Mr. Sudhish had been camping in New Delhi since Monday.

In the meantime, Mr. Vijayakant came out with his first major criticism of the BJP-led Central government in a statement here, opposing the new Land Acquisition Bill tabled in Parliament. He wanted the Union government to reconsider the move claiming that the proposed law had elements detrimental to the interests of farmers.

A party MLA confirmed that Mr. Vijayakant was not too happy with the way the BJP handled the PMK’s move to nominate Anbumani Ramadoss as Chief Ministerial candidate. Both DMDK and the PMK are constituents of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

“We expected the BJP to come out strongly against the PMK for their arbitrary and unilateral decision. But nothing has happened except for some empty statements,” a senior DMDK leader said.

Also, Dr. Anbumani’s remark during a recent press conference that Mr. Vijayakant had failed to live up to people’s expectations had added fuel to the fire.

This apart, a party source said Mr. Sudhish’s trip to New Delhi also involved matters relating to the DMDK’s television channels.
