Commuters in the southern suburbs suffered a lot without the MTC buses.
Right from 7 a.m., they were shuttling between bus stops and auto stands to reach their offices on time as most of the city route buses operated from Chromepet and Tambaram were at the depots.
Though MTC officials claimed that there was not much of a disturbance in services, the scenes at depots and bus stops proved them wrong. Only 60 buses out of 350 were operated in Tambaram, Chromepet, Pallavaram and Vandalur, sources said.
Transport Officials at Tambaram roped in some college buses to operate buses to MM Nagar and Guduvanchery at cost of ₹10 per ticket. EMU trains operated from Chengalpet and Tambaram came in handy for the stranded bus commuters.
Out of the 48 State transport corporation buses scheduled from Tambaram, only nine were operated. There was no bus connectivity to places such as Sriperumbudur, Kuruvanmedu, Walajabath, Tiruporur, Mamallapurm and Chengalpet on Friday.
