With the Chennai educational district having secured a lone state rank in the SSLC Public Examinations, schools in Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur education districts shone with students having secured four and 14 state ranks respectively.

After schools were shut for over a month in the city following the floods in December, many faculty members across schools said that the students had a lot of catching up to do towards the end and managed with the help of additional coaching.

Focus on specific concepts helped

“We ensured that the teachers identified the specific concepts in which students needed extra training and ensured that focus was given on those subjects. Despite the rains which took away nearly a month, we made up with extra classes and ensured that the students could cope up,” said K. Ponmathi, Principal of Velammal Matric School in Mogappair. The school had four students securing state ranks. G. Padmavathy, principal, Sri Sankara Vidyalaya, from where R. Vaishali secured the state second rank, said that they focussed on concept-based teaching across subjects, which helps the students understand better and impact their performance positively.

With a pass percentage of 94.25 per cent, the Chennai educational district was placed 20{+t}{+h}among the 33 districts with 52,668 students across 574 schools having appeared for the examinations.
