Students seek amenities

March 13, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:45 am IST - CHENNAI:

Students of YMCA College of Physical Education staged a protest on the campus alleging lack of basic amenities and harassment by faculty.

G. Radha, one of the students, alleged that they had been buying drinking water as the college did not make a provision for it.

“Also, the bathroom doors have not been repaired for a while now. There is a rule here that girls should not shut their doors at night while sleeping. How can we live here in such an atmosphere?” she said.

P. Bharathi, another student, said that a few faculty members had been harassing some students and threatening to fail them. “We really hope the authorities take cognisance of these issues and resolve them,” she said.

Police sources said students also alleged that the playground and swimming pool had been leased out for other purposes.

College authorities said they were not aware that students had such issues and that they would resolve them soon.

They also alleged harassment and threats by a few members of the faculty
