Students pelt stones at policemen

January 29, 2014 01:27 am | Updated May 13, 2016 12:56 pm IST - CHENNAI:

The city police on Tuesday detained around 15 students of Nandanam Arts College for a few hours, after they clashed with the police for disallowing ‘bus day’ celebrations. It was the second consecutive day the students clashed with the police. A senior police officer said the students wanted to celebrate bus day, but were not granted permission. Angered, they entered the college premises and pelted stones at the policemen, creating tension for a few hours in the locality.

A posse of police personnel was posted outside the college to prevent further trouble.

An officer said no vehicles were damaged or policemen injured in the stone-pelting incident.

‘Bus day’ celebrations in the city were banned by the Madras High Court in March 2011 on the grounds that they caused severe inconvenience to the public.
