According to Anna Salai police, a few days ago, students of the Government Arts College were assaulted by a group of students from New College following a long-standing rivalry.

In retaliation,, over 20 students from Government Arts College went to Royapettah on Thursday afternoon and intercepted a bus (route number 21) from Mandavelli to Parrys, in which some New College students were travelling.

A clash broke out, following which Abdullah (20) and Ayaz (19) of New College were injured, while the rest of their college-mates fled. When the driver attempted to take the bus to a police station, the Arts College students damaged the windshield of the bus and fled.

Anna Salai police arrested Alex (19) and a 17-year-old, both students of the Arts College. They were remanded to custody.
