Little Johnny doesn’t want the rains to go away, because he likes to splash about in them and play.
As schools and colleges remained closed on Tuesday, many youngsters took to the streets to make the most of the grey skies. “It is fun getting drenched,” said K. Vignesh, a student of a school in T. Nagar, who spent Tuesday in the rain with his friend.
Wednesday is likely to be no different as the district administration has declared a holiday fearing cyclone Nilam.
For those of who the inundated roads and alleyways were out of bounds, there was merry-making at home. K. Anbukumar of Ernavur said his son watched TV and played indoor games the whole day.
But for many students, especially those in higher classes and college, it was an opportunity to finish the backlog of school work and projects. K. Anusha, a class XII student of Hindu Senior Secondary School in Indira Nagar said she completed home-work, practiced accounts and finished a project in physical education.
“I didn’t want to waste the day. It was nice to be at home and complete pending school work. I also got to enjoy hot food and take a short nap,” she said.
V. Srinivasan, a first-year engineering student, said he did his lesson all day.
“I was preparing for some tests and evaluation slated for Wednesday. But at 6 p.m., we were informed the exams had been postponed. So, I took a break and chatted with friends, online,” he said.
Some organisations relieved their employees early from work following warnings of heavy rains. While some were given the option to work from home, others declared Wednesday a holiday.
