Students damage MTC bus in Chennai

June 28, 2014 09:33 am | Updated 09:33 am IST - CHENNAI:

Tension prevailed for a short while on Otteri bridge on Friday morning after four college students damaged the rear windshield of an MTC bus which was carrying students from a ‘rival college’.

Otteri police said the incident took place around 9.30 a.m. when the students of Presidency College were walking on the road. They spotted the bus on route number 29 E, carrying over 20 students, who were singing and cheering inside. Realising that the group belonged to Pachayappas College, they hurled stones at the vehicle, damaging the windshield.

Two students inside the bus suffered bruises and the rest jumped out of the vehicle and began to chase the four.

A police patrol team nearby saw the incident and intercepted the students. Police managed to apprehend one student while the rest of the students from both colleges fled the scene.

The student was identified as Balaji (18), a first-year-student of Presidency College, and was booked for damaging the MTC bus, following a complaint lodged by the conductor of the vehicle. He was later released on bail, sources added.
