Students condemn new education policy

August 25, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 06:22 am IST - CHENNAI:

Members of the Revolutionary Students Youth Front held a protest outside the Anna Road Head Post Office condemning the New Educational Policy proposed by the Centre.

The group which consisted of school and college students claimed that if introduced, the new policy would endanger communal harmony.

“The draft policy is similar to introducing the varna system, where a cobbler’s son can only mend shoes and not pursue higher education,” said V. Sarathi, general secretary.

In a statement, the members stated that as per the proposed policy, children who failed class V would be directly sent for skill development programmes. And, those who pass class X would be made to choose between professional and vocational streams.

“Moreover, they have made Sanskrit mandatory.

“This will lead to regional languages being undervalued,” said Sarathi.
