The 23-year-old son of a cameraman attached to the Tamil Nadu Crime Branch CID (CBCID) was one of three victims of a car crash off the Maryland interstate in United States on Sunday.

The victims’ bodies were identified only on Tuesday.

Police sources here said A. Vignesh, son of cameraman Ashokan, had been doing his MS at Virginia International University, Fairfax, Virginia, for the past four months.

Vignesh, his collegemate, Sharath Sudershanam (24), and Mallikarjun Moka (25), a banker, were returning to their Fairfax apartment on Sunday after meeting some friends.

The car driven by Moka crashed into a tree on the highway, killing all three. The wreckage was spotted two days later by a passing motorist. While Vignesh is from Tamil Nadu, the others are from Andhra Pradesh.

Sources with the CBCID said U.S. authorities had informed Ashokan, and the body is expected to be brought to Chennai in a few days.
