The city police handed over nearly Rs. 2 crore worth stolen jewellery and items and Rs.50 lakh in cash to the respective owners on Saturday.
The police cracked 125 different cases and arrested 110 persons who were involved in various theft and burglaries. In addition to the cash and the 965 sovereigns of gold, the police also recovered one kg of silver, 19 motorbikes, 17 laptops and five electronic items.
A press release said that the police had also arrested 34 persons who were involved in 47 theft and burglary cases across the city and recovered items from them. Of this, 10 were from southern region and 14 from the western part of the city.
Among these accused, Britto Lawrence from Maduravoyal, Selvaraj, Stalin, Senthil Kumaran from Rampuram, Ramamurthy, Ramesh Gupta, Balraj, Karthik from Pallavan Salai, Ranjikumar and Karunakaran from ICF, Manikandan from Villivakkam and Tamilmani from Kavankarai were among those who had prior criminal records.
Various police teams were formed a fortnight ago to conduct enquiries into the pending cases by order of Commissioner of Police S.George.
