District Collectors, Superintendents of Police and Police Commissioners in the cities have been directed to provide adequate security in view of the general strike called by the Opposition parties on Tuesday to protest against price rise.
A decision in this regard was taken at a meeting held at the Secretariat on Monday, said an official release.
The Chief Secretary, K.S. Sripathi, Director-General of Police, City and Suburban Police Commissioners, Director of Fire Services, Chairman Electricity Board and Commissioner Civil Supplies participated. Essential services such as telecommunication, distribution of water, milk and newspapers, functioning of hospitals and operation of Fire and Rescue Services should be maintained.
Power plants, electrical sub stations, government buildings, information centres, flyovers, oil depots and railway bridges should be provided adequate security. Similarly, security should be provided to educational institutions, State and Central Government offices for normal functioning. In order to operate normal bus services in the State, the district administration and the police have been directed to take necessary action. Police patrolling should be taken up to ensure proper distribution of water and milk supply. Adequate protection should be provided to the High Court and Subordinate Courts in the State. Security should also be provided to all places of worship, the release added.
