State to file report on flu situation today

September 21, 2010 12:32 am | Updated 12:32 am IST - CHENNAI:

The State government on Monday told the Madras High Court that it would file a detailed report on Tuesday about the A (H1 N1) influenza situation and action being taken by the Health Department.

When a public interest litigation petition seeking a direction to the government for providing proper treatment to everyone, came up before a first Bench, comprising Chief Justice M. Yusuf Eqbal and T.S. Sivagnanam, government pleader Raja Kalifulla said he would submit a report after discussing the issue with the Health Department.

The petition was filed by R. Balasubramanian, an advocate affiliated to the AIADMK.

Alleging that the government had failed to take appropriate steps to eradicate flu, he wanted it to constitute medical teams and send them to every house with adequate medicines for providing free treatment.

He said when malaria broke out in Tamil Nadu in 1962, the then government had appointed medical teams under the National Malaria Eradication Plan.
