The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has nominated Henri Thiphagne, executive director, People's Watch, as its State representative for monitoring the implementation of the Right To Education (RTE) Act in Tamil Nadu.

In a public hearing held recently, NCPCR Chairperson Shantha Sinha announced his appointment for the State. He would monitor the status of implementation of the Act in the State in coordination with the civil societies and the State government, and send concurrent reports to the Centre. “It is one of the rare instances where the civil society has been involved in the ensuring the implementation of an Act,” Mr. Thiphagne said.
