Elaborate arrangements are in place for polling in 233 constituencies on Monday across the State, which is set to witness a five-cornered contest between the AIADMK, DMK-Congress, the PWF-DMDK-TMC, PMK and the BJP to elect the 15th Legislative Assembly.
About 5.7 crore voters across the State are expected to cast their vote in 66,007 polling booths in the State, except the ones within Aravakurichi constituency, between 7 am and 6 pm on Monday. A total of 1,11,958 police personnel, including 21,780 paramilitary personnel (300 companies), would be involved in election duty.
Use of cell phones inside the polling booths except the Presiding Officer is prohibited. About 13,000 wheelchairs will be used across the State to assist the differently-abled when they come to cast their votes. The EC has directed all offices to remain closed to facilitate their employees to vote. In case of any violations, complaints can be given through 044-24335107 or 9445398801 or jcc.tnlabour@nic.in.
As part of the #TN100percent campaign, about 1.64 crore persons across the State had last week taken a pledge to vote ethically and without taking money for votes. The EC officials are hoping for a better turnout this time given the innovative methods adopted to boost the voting percentage.
Cash seizure
Meanwhile, the total cash seized by the election expenditure monitoring officials have seized over Rs. 105 crore across the State (Rs. 48 crore of them returned) since the Model Code of Conduct came into effect on March 4.
