CPI(M) State secretary G. Ramakrishnan on Monday said the DMK could not be an alternative to the ruling AIADMK, as the leadership of both parties were involved in corruption cases and had pursued the same neo-liberal economic policy.
“In fact, both the AIADMK and the DMK are responsible for all the problems faced by the State. There is hardly any difference between these parties,” he told The Hindu .
Mr. Ramakrishnan said DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin, who had completed his second phase of ‘Namkku Naame’ campaign, had failed to place before the people an alternative economic and political policy. “The DMK has been part of both the BJP-led NDA government and the Congress-led UPA government. It was a party to the economic reforms. How can the DMK be an alternative to the AIADMK,” he asked.
Mr Stalin also did not touch upon the issue of honour killings widely prevalent in the State. “He remained silent because he was afraid of losing caste Hindu votes. Mr. Stalin also failed to raise his voice against the killing of Kannada writer Kalburgi and support writers who are giving up their awards to express their condemnation to the Central government,” he said.
