Sruthi accident: remand extended

Judicial custody of the six men arrested has been extended till August 24

A Tambaram court on Saturday extended the judicial custody of six men arrested in connection with the death of Sruthi Sethumadhavan, a class II student, who died after falling through a gaping hole on the floor of the school bus in which she was travelling, in Mudichur last month.

Judicial Magistrate Sandilyan extended the judicial custody of the men till August 24. The six men include N. Vijayan, founder-correspondent of Zion Matriculation Schools, where Sruthi was studying, his younger brothers Paulraj and Ravi, Motor Vehicle Inspector V. Rajasekaran, Yogeswaran, who was in charge of operating the buses and the bus driver Seeman.

A seventh person, the attendant, is a minor and is at present at the Children’s Home in Kellys.

Bail applications of two of the men were earlier rejected by a Chengalpattu court on July 31 and more recently by the Madras High Court.
