Students need to acquire verbal and communication abilities and educational institutions play a crucial role in equipping them with the skill sets that help them get jobs soon after they graduate. This was the message at the launch of a forum, Empower SRM, at the private university in Kattankulathur, recently.
Over 4,500 students took part in an online test to evaluate the core employability skills of young engineering graduates. The test is part of SRM University’s new learning management system designed and developed by the university. Empower SRM is a new tool to prepare students to face the competitive world even before they graduate, starting from their campus interviews.
The forum was launched by V. Athulan, chief technical officer of System Insights.
Twenty-five of the best entries from the students who took part in the online employability test received prizes.
Faculty members at the university’s Career Development Centre said the university places over 4,000 students through campus interviews every year, and they were scaling up this process to cater to 7,000 students.
