Two special clinics — one for children with cerebral palsy and another for pain rehabilitation — were launched at the Government Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine here on Wednesday. A Rehabilitation Research Unit was also inaugurated, which will undertake various medical research programmes.
The cerebral palsy clinic will address abnormalities in motor coordination and low intelligence levels among children through multiple interventions such as drugs, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, psychological evaluation and counselling and vocational rehabilitation. It will be open every Wednesday from 10 a.m. to noon. Patients suffering from degenerative diseases and chronic pain syndromes are treated at the Pain Rehabilitation Clinic through drugs, physiotherapy and ergonomic interventions. Special medications such as pain modulators, group exercise sessions, home programmes and posture re-education will be offered at the clinic, which will be open every Sunday from 10 a.m. to noon.
