Spanish film festival inaugurated

Throwing the spotlight on Spanish films made by women, the Festival of films: ‘Made by Women’ was inaugurated on Monday. The film festival will showcase seven films made by women directors at the at the Alliance Francaise of Madras till April 25.

Antony Lobo, Consul of Spain and Head of Mission, Consulate of Spain ,Chennai, said that Spanish films had always been well received in the city and had several film lovers attending screenings.

“The Consulate is becoming more active in the city now and we are looking to promote a host of cultural activities including promoting our films,” he said. Director duo Pushkar and Gayatri of ‘Vikram Vedha’ fame, were special guests at the inaugural and spoke about how they had in the past, attended the screenings of several foreign films organised by the ICAF before they entered the industry.

The festival, jointly organised by the Indo Cine Appreciation Foundation, Instituto Cervantes, New Delhi and Consulate of Spain Chennai. ‘Miss Wamba’ directed by Estefania Cortes and ‘Requirements to be a normal person’ directed by Letecia Dolera were screened after the inaugural.
