Movie buffs and lovers of Spanish language and culture in the city were in for a pleasant surprise on Saturday, as the Indo Cine Appreciation Foundation brought in a nine-member team comprising actors, directors and musicians from Spain at the inaugural function of the Spanish Film Festival.
The festival organised by Casa De La India and Indo Cine Appreciation Foundation (ICAF) opened with the screening of comedy film Rivals.
Inaugurating the four-day festival, Guillermo Rodriguez, Director, Casa De La India, said seven of the recent award-winning films showcasing the variety and diversity of the country were being screened.
He said Spanish filmmakers do not stress on any particular genre and they take a lot of risk catering to a niche audience.
“Social, political thriller, comedy or historical, you will find all kind of films and not all are commercial filmmakers,” he said.
Interacting with The Hindu , Mr. Rodriguez said Spain was looking at signing a treaty with the Union government this year, whereby it would promote, coordinate and support shooting in exotic locations in Spain.
“For this, the movie has to be qualified as an Indo-Spanish production and the filmmaker would gain in terms of incentives,” he said.
Spanish actors Jose Coronado, Kira Miro, Eulalia Ramon; documentary filmmaker Albert Sole; director of International Film Festival, Valladolid, Javier Angulo; and producer Beatriz de la Gandara were honoured.
MLA S.Ve. Sekhar and ICAF patron S. Kannan and president B. Ramakrishnan were among those present on the occasion.
