A commemorative souvenir to mark the Maha Samprokshanam of the Sri Alarmelmanga Sametha Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple of the Sri Vedantha Desikar Devasthanam in Mylapore was released here on Sunday.

The 46th Jeer of the Sri Ahobila Mutt Sri Ranganatha Yatheendra Mahadesikan Swamigal and Srirangam Srimad Andavan Sri Ranga Ramanuja Mahadesikan Swamigal released the souvenir.

In their anugraha bhashanam, they commended the work of the board of trustees of the temple for conducting the samprokshanam.

They also honoured donors who had generously contributed to the renovation of the temple at a cost of Rs. 3.5 crore.

As part of the renovations, a new vasantha mandapam and kannadi arai (hall of mirrors with eight sides) were constructed and a nandavanam (garden) formed. An existing kannadi arai, madapalli, goshala and vahana mandapam were also renovated, said D. Sundaravaradan, a trustee.

R. Mugunthan, one of the trustees, said that soon, works to construct a new raja gopuram, gold plate, replace the dwajasthambam and repair the archakas quarters would be taken up. He said that the repair works were completed in a matter of six months and thanked the major donors including the TVS Group, The Hindu and Apollo Hospitals for their contributions.

R. Srinivasan, another trustee, said that earlier Maha Samprokshanams were held in 1975 and 1995 for the temple that was initially built for Desikar Swami.

Nelvoy Sowmyan, who headed the souvenir committee, said that the publication contained among other things, the history of the temple, list of dharmakarthas, list of donors and contributions from seers and eminent scholars.
