Slew of proposals to do up city unveiled

The Chennai Corporation is all set to put in place a system that will ensure the issuing of building approvals in seven days.

Mayor Saidai S.Duraisamy made an announcement to this effect, along with several others on Tuesday, to mark the commencement of the second year of the Corporation council.

Steps will also be taken to ensure that all multi-storied buildings, shopping complexes and hospitals have sewage treatment plants. Corporation schools, street lights, offices and hospitals will have solar lighting. Automation of street lighting will also be done.

The civic body is also planning to increase the number of escalators with foot overbridges in various parts of the city. New multi-level parking lots will be constructed. A herbal park will be created in Madambakkam.

The pavement on the western side of Kamarajar Salai near Marina Beach will be refurbished. Projects for power from waste will be implemented in Kodungaiyur and Perungudi. Innovative solid waste management initiatives will be implemented in Kodungaiyur and Perungudi. Plastics will also be recycled in these areas.

As many as 336 such announcements have been made by the Chennai Corporation. A total of Rs. 1,840 crore has been allocated for all of the Corporation work.
