The draft electoral rolls released on Tuesday reveals that the total size of the electorate increased by 14 lakh voters to take the total size of the electorate to 5.95 crore compared to 5.81 crore voters as per the rolls released in September 2016.
The special summary revision of electoral rolls of Assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu, which was announced by Election Commission of India (ECI) here on Tuesday, also reveals that women voters outnumber the male voters by 5 lakh in Tamil Nadu.
Inclusions, deletions
In the period between January and October 2017, the Election Commission said that around 5.47 lakh inclusions and 2.31 lakh deletions have been made following due procedures laid down by the ECI.
There are a total of 5.95 crore voters in Tamil Nadu – 2.95 crore male voters, 3 crore female voters and 5,242 persons identified as the third gender.
Highest number
Shozhinganallur Assembly constituency in Kancheepuram district has been identified as the constituency with highest number of electors: 6.24 lakh, while Kilvelu Assembly constituency in Nagapattinam district has the lowest number with just 1.68 lakh electors.
Shozhinganallur constituency also has the highest number of women voters (3,10, 542) and Maduravoyal has highest number of third gender voters (130).
The State government has said that the exercise will be focussed not just on inclusion but also on deletion of dead and shifted electors from the electoral rolls.
