Six arrestedfor attack on Bank of Ceylon

Egmore police have arrested six persons of the Dravida Viduthalaigal Kazhagam Katchi on charges of attacking the Bank of Ceylon branch on Casa Major Road on Thursday.

On February 7, around 1.30 p.m. they attacked the branch and injured a bank clerk and a trainee. After the police obtained CCTV footage, they identified the attackers and arrested them on Friday.

The six people who were arrested and remanded to custody were Thamaraikannan (29) of Porur, Baskar (32) of Ponneri, Johnson (28) of Mylapore, Ashok Kumar (23), Sampath (44) and Kannapan (28) of Royapettah. A search is on to nab the other attackers. Police suspected that the attack was in protest against Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s visit to India.
