The police arrested six persons on the charge of tearing the banners of actor-turned-politician Rajnikanth in Perambur during the early hours of Sunday.

According to the police, the inauguration of Rajnikanth Makkal Mandram was scheduled for Sunday.

Banners of actor Mr. Rajnikanth were placed from MKB Nagar to Kodungaiyur Meenambal Salai.

On Sunday morning, the cadre of the mandram found that the banners were torn by miscreants.

A complaint was lodged with the MKB Nagar police station by S.V. Ganesan, secretary, Rajnikanth Makkal Mandram, Perambur. After investigation, the police picked up six youngsters, all in their mid-twenties.

“They are members of a fringe pro-Tamil political outfit. However, they did not act on the party’s advice. The youngsters were drunk and were angry seeing the banners, and tore them up,” said a police officer.
