The Central Council for Research in Siddha (CCRS) will work with agencies with similar interests in eradicating vitiligo and the organisation will offer its full medical support to the cause, said R.S. Ramaswamy, director general of CCRS.

He inaugurated a free consultation and free medicine distribution camp for those with vitiligo, which was organised along with Leucoderma Awareness Movement-India (LAMI) at Jaigopal Garodia National Higher Secondary School, Tambaram, on Sunday. Doctors from CCRS offered medical advice to patients and free medical kits sponsored by LAMI were distributed. Dr. Ramaswamy said that apart from medication, one needs mental strength to deal with stress levels, for which the council offers yoga therapy. “Stress is an important factor that could affect leucoderma patients,” he said.

Similar vitiligo awareness campaigns are planned across the State, as well as in Puducherry, said LAMI secretary, K. Umapathy. He said regular consumption of medicine and following medical advice would save those affected from getting de-coloured. Medicines are distributed free of cost by LAMI and persons living with vitiligo may contact its office at Patel Nagar, West Tambaram at 044 22265507, 22265508 or 98400 52464.
