A 19-year-old girl and her 11-year-old younger brother were found dead at their home in Madambakkam near Tambaram on Friday evening.

St. Thomas Mount district police sources said the victims’ mother Indubala works in a leading computer training centre in Gowrivakkam.

On Friday, around 7 p.m., she reached their independent house on Denupureeswar Nagar Second Street. She found her two children — Sadurshini, a second-year student in a private university in Pallavaram, and Yukesh, a class VI student in a private school — lying in a pool of blood in the living room.

Indubala collapsed and noticing this, neighbours rushed to the spot. One of them called up the police control room and personnel from the Selaiyur and Chitlapakkam police stations reached the spot. While Sadurshini had sustained cut injuries on her throat, her younger brother Yukesh had sustained blunt injuries on his forehead.

The victims’ father, Vasudevan, works in a private company.

The incident sent shockwaves through Madambakkam. Police sources said they did not have any specific leads into the murders. A 19-year-old boy, known to the family and especially to Sadurshini, was being questioned by the police, the sources said.
