‘Masala Dosa with a view’ was chosen the winning picture in the fourth edition of The Hindu Shutterbug photography contest. The theme was ‘Breakfast in Chennai’.
For an innovative viewpoint of a popular dish, Devanshu Arya's pic was chosen by photo editor D. Krishnan and food writer Shonali Muthalaly. He wins the top prize of dinner for two at the Hilton, Chennai. Of the six finalists, Dya MC, Sanjeeta K.K. and Geo Damin win dinner passes for two from GRT Grand, and Antoinette Stephen, Kajal George and Subhashini Shrikumar win passes from Savera. Set in a dynamic, new interface at www.thehindushutterbug.com, this edition of the contest saw more participation than ever. Readers could register, upload and vote for their favourite images. Winner of the Readers’ Choice contest is Shiva N. Ojas. He gets a Landmark voucher worth Rs. 1,000.

A dynamic view of a common dosa, fried to a rich, golden brown with the masala snugly tucked at its core. Excellent composition; Arya has chosen an angle not normally attempted. Shot with an open aperture, the shallow depth of field has added to the beauty of this photograph.

We liked this picture, in particular, because its unusual angle gave a fresh perspective to this familiar, commonly photographed dish.
