Shaji Purushothaman will foot the hospital bills of the 10-year-old girl who was seriously injured in the May 23 accident, said Shaji’s counsel in the Madras High Court on Tuesday.

He made the submission in response to a public interest petition by S. Jimraj Milton, Chennai branch secretary of Human Rights Protection Centre, Tamil Nadu. Mr. Milton said Subharakshitha had suffered a ‘composite multiple fracture’ in her hand. She was injured in the head too.

Since there was a delay in treatment at the Geberal Hospital, her parents took her to the Soundarapandian Bone and Joint Hospital where they were told the treatment would cost around Rs. 5 lakh.
