In a petty fight over space for sleeping, a senior citizen was killed in Chromepet on Sunday night.

A senior official of the Chennai City Police said Alappa Naicker (70), a resident of Periyar Nagar 1st Street in Chromepet, used to sleep on the open terrace because of the hot weather.

On Sunday, the victim and a co-tenant, S. Venkatesan (52), had a fight over the place and in the ensuing fight, Venkatesan hit Alappa Naicker with a heavy stick, the officer said.

Having sustained serious injuries on the head, the senior citizen was rushed to the Chromepet Government Hospital, where he died.

Based on a complaint, the Chitlapakkam police registered a case and arrested Venkatesan.
