An attempt to take a selfie by climbing on the stationed wagon ended in a tragedy for a teenager at Tambaram on Sunday.
Police said K. Prakash (17), a class XI student, climbed the stationary wagon on the eastern side of Tambaram railway station on Sunday.
Burn injuries
Quoting other students, the police said Prakash accidentally came in contact with the overhead traction which supplies power to electrical engines of trains.
In the impact, he received serious burn injuries and was rushed to the Kilpauk Medical College Hospital. Despite doctors’ efforts to revive, he collapsed around midnight, police added.
Government Railway Police, Tambaram have registered a case and are investigating.
Sometime ago, a selfie attempt by a Class 11 student at Arignar Anna Government School in Poonamallee, in front a moving train ended in a tragedy as a student died on the spot after he was hit by the train in January this year.
Railway police officials at Tambaram said that they had been enforcing discipline at the stations by posting additional cops, and staff of railway protection force are also regulating commuters’ traffic in train compartments and stations.
