Has the time come when something more must be done for women’s rights than mere campaigns and talks? One man thought so.
Prakash Vaithyanathan, a Maths and Science schoolteacher from the Vael’s Billabong International School, Chennai, decided to further the cause by taking the fight to the post office.
Using the My Stamp facility, he printed stamps with the messages “End Violence Against Women” and “Free Education For A Girl Child” printed.
The ‘My Stamp’ facility enables members of the public to get personalised stamps that are legally accepted by the government.
“These stamps can spread the message of equality. Even today, many parents are oblivious to the fact that the government has schemes for free education for every child, including girls,” he said.
Mr. Prakash has plans to bring out these stamps in Tamil and Malayalam, as he feels that there are an inordinate number of domestic violence cases in northern Kerala.
