Security along the perimeter is of paramount importance for the corporate sector, said Director General of Police Letika Saran here on Saturday.
Addressing a conference on ‘Building secure cities in troubled times,' Ms. Saran said those on perimeter duty should move around the area. The company should also ensure that no one had access to the building except through the main gate.
Even when someone visits a company with proper references, the company should record the details of the visitor in the register. This would help in reducing the threat perception. Screening of persons before absorbing them was also very important. She advised the Corporate Sector to have an ‘interface' officer to coordinate with police and corporate houses.
Talking about private security, she said there were many recognised security agencies available.
For any queries on use of private security, the corporate sector could approach the police headquarters. The private security agencies were monitored by police, she pointed out.
Shakeel Akther, Inspector General of Police and Additional Commissioner, said along with the Confederation of Indian Industry, the Chennai Police had initiated a ‘Safe Chennai' programme. But, it was not progressing as expected. Industries should start institutes to train private security personnel.
The programme was jointly organised by the Security Watch India, the Madras Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Indianeye Security and City Security and Resilence Networks.
