At the end of the third day of counselling for medical colleges seats on Monday, there were none left in the open category in the 18 government-run medical colleges.

All 165 seats have been filled up at Madras Medical College, while there are four available in Stanley Medical College. More than 50 seats in other categories are available in the newly started Sivaganga Medical College, apart from those in the Tiruvarur and Tirunelveli colleges. 20 seats are available in the open category in the lone state-run dental college. A total of 212 out of 729 seats are available in the open category for self-financing medical colleges.

Parents complained that the vacancy position and list of seats allotted were not updated on Saturday. , leaving them guessing about the status. Counselling began on July 5 for special categories, but the website was not updated on that day. Though the website was updated on Friday, the first day of counselling for general categories, there was no information about seat vacancy/allotment on Saturday. On Monday, parents remained in the dark as the vacancy/allotment details had not been updated. However, on Monday evening, the details were updated.

K. Kalidoss, a resident of Coimbatore, whose son is expected to attend the counselling session later this week said, “Updating the website would help us plan our tripto Chennai. Parents would generally discuss the counselling position instead of arriving for counselling without any clue about the vacancy position. I am happy they have updated the seat allotment and vacancy position today.”
