June 16, 2013 09:47 am | Updated 09:47 am IST - KANCHEEPURAM:

Two students of a private school at Achirapakkam sustained minor injuries after they fell down from their school van on the Grand Southern Trunk Road near Achirapakkam on Friday evening.

The police said the two girls, Yogalakshmi and Akila, students of class V, were standing on the board near the van door. The driver applied the brakes suddenly, to avoid hitting a person walking in front of the van, resulting in the girls falling from the vehicle. They were rushed to Chengalpattu Medical College hospital, Chengalpattu, and were later discharged.

The Achirapakkam police have registered a case as the cleaner, required to accompany the schoolchildren in the van, was absent. The van was engaged by the private school for transporting children from their homes in nearby villages to the school and back.
