School management interrogated

July 03, 2010 01:51 am | Updated 01:51 am IST - CHENNAI:

The management of a matriculation school in Kolathur was interrogated after parents complained to the Private Schools Fee Determination Committee that the school was collecting excess fee. District Educational Officials visited a matriculation school on Friday to enquire into the matter and said the enquiry is still on.

According to committee members, they would have to study the records before deciding the next course of action. Committee members said that they have received complaints from more than a couple of schools. However, sources said over 10 schools in the State have been inspected so far, including and two on Friday. Meanwhile, heads of schools said that as the appeal for a revision in the fee structure is still pending with the committee, no action must be taken against schools.

“The committee must not act upon complaints by parents or others as schools have appealed and are still awaiting their revised fee structure. This only tarnishes the image of a school and disturbs its normal functioning,” said N. Vijayan, General Secretary, Federation of Matriculation Schools' Associations in Tamil Nadu. Thousands of schools had earlier appealed to the committee, asking it to revise the fee prescribed.
